There, while searching the area, she was aggrieved to hear that he grandfather had been captured by some savage cavemen. She was then captured along with the rest of the TARDIS crew. After arriving on Avalon, in the castle of Fluxford, Susan and Princess Melissa are captured by Apemen to be taken to The Black Tower in the custody of Marton Dhal. While there, she and Melissa gain friendship as they try to escape. Using two vials of acid, which Susan stole from Dhal's work desk, and the use of Magic, she pours the liquid onto the steel bars that block the window. Using Melissa's hair, like Rapunzel, they climb down the side of the tower. They are saved by Edmund Palbury and his soldiers and they return to Fluxford. While there, Susan ecounters the might of Gramling as he uses Merlin's Helm to try and destroy Avalon and its people.
